Key Dates

JANUARY 2004: Preston Road’s first calendar, again designed by a resident, produced and distributed free to all homes.

FEBRUARY 2004: Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott visits the Village Centre Childcare building and Preston Road Construction Training Centre for its first anniversary.

MARCH 2004: £1.5 million Children's Centre becomes operational on the Village Centre site.

MARCH 2004: PRNDC hosts meeting of the NDC National Communications Forum, with 15 other NDC partnerships represented.

APRIL 2004: Preston Road Women’s Centre goes independent, becoming the Winner Company.

APRIL 2004: Snapshot 2004 and the PRNDC Year Five Delivery Plan were published.

APRIL 2004: Ceremony to launch work on £3.5 million community facility at the Village Centre by Jean Toker, Vice-Chair, PRNDC.

APRIL 2004: New Preston Road police station opened, first new-build in Hull for 20 years, at the Village Centre.

JUNE 2004: Operation Cleansweep, a comprehensive summer community safety campaign organised by PRNDC with the Police and Hull City Council was launched.

AUGUST 2004: The Solution Centre reopened, more than a year since it closed to make way for building work on the Village Centre. The facility replaced Action 243 and includes staff from Preston Road Information Service, PROBE Jobshop and Age Concern. It has also absorbed the WIRE IT office.

SEPTEMBER 2004: The Children's Centre was shortlisted for an award from the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in Yorkshire in the community benefit category.

SEPTEMBER 2004: Second longest-serving PRNDC staff member, Training and Development Co-ordinator Julie Murrey left the company after five years to relocate.

OCTOBER 2004: October Community Paramedic Ron Wilkinson won the Health category in the inaugural New Deal for Communities National Achievement Awards 2004. PRNDC was named runner-up in the education, employment, mainstreaming, youth, and young person’s achievement categories. It was commended for Partnership of the Year.

NOVEMBER 2004: Sod-cutting ceremony for new £1.5 million adult learning facility at the Village Centre by Helen McMullen, Corporate Director of Learning and Culture, Hull City Council.
